A Night Under The Stars - Grantley Hall

A Night Under the Stars at Grantley Hall – Floral Design for a Truly Magical Evening

There are events, and then there are moments that stay with you long after the last candle has burned down. A Night Under the Stars, in support of Yorkshire Children's Charity, held at the breathtaking Grantley Hall, was exactly that — an unforgettable evening where flowers played a starring role.

From the very beginning, our vision was to create an immersive floral experience - something abundant, joyful, and full of life. We wanted guests to feel as though they had stepped into a dreamlike garden beneath glass and sky.

A Floral Installation on a Grand Scale

This was no small undertaking. Over the course of five days on-site, supported by weeks of preparation, a team of 17 florists worked tirelessly to bring the design to life. Thousands upon thousands of stems passed through our hands - every bloom carefully chosen, conditioned, and placed with intention.

The brief called for impact - and we delivered that through scale, layering, and movement.

Suspended above the tables were our three-tier tulip chandeliers - cascading installations filled with vibrant tulips that seemed to float effortlessly overhead. These statement pieces created a canopy of colour, drawing the eye upward and transforming the space into something truly magical.

Below, the tables told their own story.

Tablescapes Bursting with Colour

Each table was dressed in bright coloured linens and layered with ombre tulip arrangements, flowing from one shade to the next. We combined tulips with seasonal blooms such as poppies, ranunculus, hellebore and fritillaria in bold, joyful tones — corals, pinks, yellows, and soft apricots - to create arrangements that felt both luxurious and playful plus with a smattering of narcissi for a Spring touch.

The design was intentionally abundant. Flowers spilled naturally across the tables, softening the formality of the setting while enhancing the sense of celebration.

Crystal candelabras added height and elegance, catching the light as the evening unfolded and bringing a soft glow to the vibrant florals below.

Unexpected Moments of Delight

Beyond the tables, we introduced sculptural and playful floral moments throughout the space. One of the most talked-about features was our florally adorned sheep sculptures — a nod to the Yorkshire countryside, reimagined with a whimsical, artistic twist.

We also created a bespoke floral arch, donated to the charity. Designed to feel lush and inviting, it offered a perfect entranceway while contributing to the overall atmosphere of generosity and celebration.

Designing with Purpose

Sustainability and giving back were at the heart of our approach. We didn’t want to compromise our commitment to reducing single use plastics by using floral foam. We used zero foam in all the arrangements, opting for sustainable methods instead which is no mean feat when producing florals on this scale. We also sourced all our Tulips from renowned British growers Smith & Munson

Where possible, we kept tulips on the bulb, allowing them to be replanted after the event to bloom year after year. These bulbs were donated to local children’s organisations ensuring they continued to bring joy long after the evening ended. The fresh florals also all found a home being given to local care homes for the residents to enjoy.

It was incredibly important to us that the beauty created for one night could have a lasting impact.

A Celebration of Creativity and Collaboration

Events of this scale are never the work of one person - they are a true team effort. It was such a joy to work with Johnny Roxburgh Designs. From early design concepts to the final placement of each stem, this project was powered by passion, creativity, and collaboration. It also wouldn’t have been possible without the technical assistance of AV Matrix and The English Marquee Company for getting our show stopping chandeliers in the air.

To see the space come alive - filled with colour, light, and energy - was a moment we won’t forget.

Most importantly, to contribute to such an inspiring cause made it all the more meaningful. Supporting the work of Yorkshire Children's Charity, and helping create an environment where generosity and joy could flourish, was an absolute privilege.
