Meet Becky — Our Newest Leafy Family Member!
We’re so excited to introduce Becky - Leafy Couture Calderdale. Becky will be covering the Calderdale region including Halifax, Huddersfield, Wakefield and Rothwell.
With a background in healthcare and a lifelong love of flowers, Becky has followed her heart into the world of floristry — bringing creativity, warmth, and passion to everything she makes. From her first week on our Introduction to Floristry course to now running her own workshops, Becky’s journey is an inspiring reminder that it’s never too late to blossom into something new.
I'm Becky and I'm the newest member of the Leafy family. I grew up in Huddersfield but have spent most of my adult life living in Leeds after going to university there. At university, I studied to be a Radiographer and qualified in 2009, working across both the NHS and independent sector. I also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Mammography, so alongside X-raying I also worked in breast screening.
When I'm not in my workshop making pretty, flowery concoctions, you'll find me hanging out with my dog, Goose — we love to go on outdoor adventures, and he likes to greet absolutely anyone who will give him a fuss! I also really enjoy keeping fit and have recently started running... and quite enjoy it!
Have you always been interested in floristry?
I've always loved flowers and the joy that they bring, so I think it’s always been a passion in the background of my mind. One of the beauties of floristry is that it doesn’t demand you discover it early. Flowers will always be there, season after season, offering variety and beauty throughout the year.
My passion for floristry really came to light after doing the Introduction to Floristry course at Leafy Couture — a week-long course covering different techniques in floral design, from gift bouquets and funeral flowers through to wedding and event arrangements. I had the most magical week, and I knew I’d found an area I really wanted to work in.
Floristry is more than arranging stems; it’s storytelling, creativity, and connection — whether you’ve held this passion since childhood or stumbled into it later, like I have.
What do you love most about your new job?
The people you meet, the variety from day to day, and being able to create something meaningful and beautiful. Flowers have a way of telling stories — of weddings, birthdays, farewells, and fresh beginnings — and being trusted to help tell those stories feels like a privilege. With every bouquet or arrangement, you’re not just working with stems; you’re shaping emotions.
In a world that's often fast-paced and digital, floristry invites you to slow down, to notice, and to create beauty from living things. Although it's a lot of hard work, for me it's also a form of meditation — I find working with flowers very therapeutic.
What is your favourite flower?
The big question! Absolutely not a cop-out, but I wouldn’t say I have just one — there’s too much beauty to choose from! But I’d like to give a special mention to dahlias, ranunculi, Icelandic poppies, peonies, and amaranthus.
What excites you most about the industry?
The creativity! No two arrangements are the same, and the possibilities are endless. Trends shift, new colour palettes emerge, and flowers surprise us with their beauty season after season. There’s always something new to explore — whether it’s playing with unexpected textures, designing for large-scale events, or finding joy in the simplest hand-tied bouquet.
Then there’s the way floristry connects us to people. Every arrangement has a purpose — whether it’s love, celebration, remembrance, or gratitude — and being part of those moments feels incredibly meaningful.
And perhaps what excites me most is the sense of community. The floristry world is filled with people who share a genuine passion for flowers and design, and there’s such joy in learning from one another, supporting each other, and celebrating each other’s successes.
What made you become part of the Leafy family?
The first thing that stands out is the passion that Sarah and the rest of the team have for making beautiful creations. It's not just about arranging flowers — it's about crafting something that tells a story, something that celebrates life's treasured moments. That passion is infectious, and you can feel it as soon as you step into the workshop.
Beyond the flowers, it's the sense of belonging that makes Leafy special. Being part of the Leafy team means having a circle of support around you. It's not about being alone — it’s very much us, growing together and encouraging one another.
I also love that Leafy is proudly female-led. There’s a strength and vision in that leadership — a determination to not only run a successful business but to nurture others along the way. It’s empowering to be part of a community that champions women and inspires them to flourish both creatively and professionally.
And perhaps one of the most meaningful parts? The emphasis on sustainability. From mindful sourcing to eco-friendly practices, there’s a constant awareness that beauty shouldn't come at the expense of the planet. It feels good to be part of a team where responsibility and creativity go hand in hand.
What’s coming up over the next few months for Becky?
It’s the start of my own full-time floristry journey, so I’ll be popping up at wedding fayres, running Christmas wreath workshops in Halifax, Mirfield and Huddersfield, as well as planning ahead for 2026!
